How is my online account secured?
At Ottawa Hiway Credit Union, the security of your online information is important to us. You can rest assured that nobody outside of Ottawa Hiway Credit Union has access to your account information.
Web Site Security
The Online Branch is secured and encrypted using an industry standard SHA256 SSL Certificate.
Encryption is a technical term for scrambling meaningful text and numbers at one location and transmitting them across the Internet to another location. The encryption process uses complex algorithmic formulas to create a key that is used to translate the information back into useable content. There are billions of potential keys and a different key is used for each Active Web Site session.
All confidential information sent to and requested by the Online Branch is encrypted. The credit union submits the account information using Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encrypted network transmissions. The encryption we currently use is SHA256 encryption. This is extremely secure and the most compatible encryption for worldwide use.
How do I know I'm accessing a secure Web site?
One of the easiest ways you can tell if you are entering a secure site is to look in the ADDRESS bar of your Web Browser. Secure websites are identified with "https" in the URL and a padlock symbol in the URL address line of most Web Browsers.
